Braunstone shows its creativity again

The culmination of the ‘Learning from the Past, Looking to the Future’ project was reached with a great exhibition at the Brite Centre earlier this month. Over about five months participants took part in several activities and produced a raft of work that is able to show Braunstone through its own residents creative and artistic eyes. Several members of St Peter’s took part in this community project.

There was watercolour group that produced paintings which sought to capture Braunstone’s heritage and depth, those elements of our environment we really value. The digital photography group took many stunning pictures that sought to represent Braunstone’s beauty and reality. The textile group produced an incredible hanging that was able to demonstrate a range of techniques drawn from the past and present using residents experience and skills coming from a range of backgrounds and cultures. The history group researched Braunstone’s rich heritage to help find out what gives the area its identity and shaped its environment and its people, this helps people in the area to develop their confidence and pride in their locality.

The whole project has been filmed and a DVD has been produced. The premier was shown at the new Phoenix cinema on 23rd March. Copies will be available to borrow from the Library.

This project was put on by B Creative, part of B inspired and funded by the Transformation Fund and St Peter’s has been a partner organisation.
