Celebrate Candlemas at St Peter’s

We are celebrating the ancient festival of Candlemas – proper name “The Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple” – at our Parish Eucharist on Sunday 31st January at 10am.
This is the nearest Sunday to February 2nd, when the Church remembers Mary and Joseph taking the baby Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem. He was spotted by two old people, Simeon and Anna, who had been promised they wouldn’t die till they had seen God’s chosen Messiah. Simeon called him “the light to the nations”, hence the candles.

This year, we are trying out an experimental order of service for use when children and newcomers are present. We hope it will be easier to get hold of, without losing its depth of meaning. Come and tell us what you think…
