An Evening with Richard Hardy, Railwayman

Richard Hardy, author of “Steam in the Blood” and other railway classics, is speaking at an evening meeting at St Peter’s Church.

Fans of the railways will know the name of Richard Hardy, retired manager of British Rail, whose railway career went from junior fireman to senior manager at BR Headquarters in Marylebone, London. He lived through the Beeching cuts in the 1960s, and believes (unfashionably) that Dr Beeching saved the railways from going totally bankrupt.

Entry is free, but you need a ticket, available from John Malpus, chair of the Syston Model Railway Society, who are supporting St Peter’s in this new venture.
