West Leicester Mission Partnership

After some negotiations, five churches in our part of Leicester have agreed to form a Mission Partnership together. This will replace the Cluster, as all the Cluster churches are in the new Partnership.
The Partner churches are: St Peter’s Braunstone Park, Holy Apostles, Church of the Martyrs, St Anne’s Letchworth Road and St Paul’s Kirby Road with St Augustine’s Newfoundpool. The Bishop of Leicester has appointed the Revd Chris Oxley, vicar of St Anne’s and St Paul’s, as Mission Partnership Convenor. The launch of the Mission Partnership took place on Thursday November 22nd 2007 at 6pm, at the BRITE Centre, Braunstone Avenue.

What is a Mission Partnership?

Part of the Bishop’s Mission Strategy “Shaped by God” includes parishes working more closely together, to support each other’s work and complement each other’s gifts. St Peter’s is smaller than most of its partner churches and less obviously well resourced – we stand to gain from the greater capacity of our new partners. But we also have something to offer – we have experience in social action and community involvement that others have asked us to share.

What will we do?

So far we have had a successful launch event, held not in a church but in an award-winning community venue. We hope to take the Good news of Christ out of our religious space into the public spaces of our part of Leicester. We are holding a joint “Alpha” course, and planning to share good practice in our work with children and young people.

But the agenda for the partnership isn’t fixed – we are wide open to whatever opportunities and challenges God sends our way.
